Currently employees are allowed time off to perform services as emergency rescue personnel.  The law has been revised by AB 2536 to expand the definition of “emergency rescue personnel.”  The new definition shall include an officer, employee or member of a disaster medical response team sponsored or requested by the state.

AB 2536 also requires an employee who is a health care provider, as defined, to notify his/her employer when he/she is designated as an emergency rescue personnel and also to notify the employer at the time that the employee learns that he/she will be deployed for emergency duty.
